On this Thursday night at the Wellington Library – "Deepening Democracy via Participatory Budgeting" with Giovanni Allegretti.
Hands on simulation lead by …….
Giovanni Allegretti is an architect and senior researcher at the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra, Portugal
Thursday 22nd November 5.30 – 8pm
Wellington Public Library – Mezzanine Floor Meeting Room – lift across from Clarks Cafe
As the economic downturn continues and governments seek more specific mandates to cut services Participatory Budgeting is becoming globally recognised as a useful process in participatory democracy.
Giovanni has focused on research and practice in Participatory Budgeting since 1997. He is recognised as a world expert. This is an opportunity to hear about Participatory Budgeting from an expert and to take part in a simulation designed to give you a real sense of how effective this process can be. The simulation will lead to assigning a budget as a Participatory Budgeting process would in practice.
Please encourage friends and colleagues to come along.
The seminar is free – koha at the door appreciated.
It will take place from 5.30 sharp (open from 5.15) to 8pm. After discussions with Giovanni we changed the format of the originally planned meeting and it will be in the form of a ‘game’ as opposed to a talk.
For this to be effective we require you to plan on staying for the whole session so the 'game' approach will work.
